What is ‘Produced Locally’?

A range of products sourced as locally as possible from within Cornwall and west Devon. These products are also selected for their unique local character and superior quality.

How local is locally?

The majority of produced locally products come from within a 12-mile radius of Whitstone Village Stores. The four best-selling ‘produced locally’ lines come from within 3 miles, with our suppliers of beef, pork, free range eggs, bread and fresh cakes all located in the parish of Whitstone or the neighbouring parish of Week St Mary.

Is it expensive?

Not necessarily. The majority of produced locally lines come straight from the producer so there’s no ‘middle-man’ to pay, while reduced food miles means lower costs of transport. We pass these savings on to our customers to ensure that our prices are as competitive as possible. We believe quality local produce should be as accessible as possible to all our customers and we try to stock a selection of lines at a range of prices to suit everyone.

Are you a farm shop?

Whitstone Village Stores does exactly what it says on the sign – we’re a village stores; a grocer that tries to sell a little bit of everything, that is convenient and friendly. We just happen to specialise in locally produced food.

What’s it all for?

We’re lucky to be surrounded by beautiful countryside that produces some of the finest foods you’ll find anywhere. We believe in supporting the local economy and want to share the quality and freshness on our doorstep. We think ‘produced locally’ tastes better, and is good for our community and environment.
