About usLocated in North Cornwall, halfway between Launceston and Bude on the B3254, Whitstone Stores is perfectly situated to serve to the residents of Whitstone, and neigbouring parishes of North Tamerton, North Petherwin, and Boyton, together with many passing customers using the B3254.
Since taking over the business in 2007, the current owners, Dan, Kyla & family have carried out extensive modernisation and refurbishment, and aim to offer the very best in friendly customer service together with a wide range of general grocery, local produce, hot food to go, off licence and many other products & services all in one place. Our main refit in 2008 saw the introduction of big new open deck fridges which allowed us to expand our chilled foods, wines and beers, plus our fresh fruit and vegetable selection. We even put down a brilliant new floor with nice sparkly bits to make the whole place look really bright and cheerful – all 1,000sq ft of it!
There’s also a lovely big counter so we can serve our customers efficiently – we hate queues! We also host a Post Office partner service from our checkout area, meaning you can do loads of useful things like top up your mobile phone, make a cash withdrawal or pay a household bill – as well as post your letters and parcels of course. We are always seeking to improve, and are always delighted to hear feedback from our customers, epecially on any new product you would like us to stock for example, or how we may improve our service to you, just let us know.
The History Of Whitstone StoresThere has long been a general store in Whitstone, many remember when Whitstone Stores was "Pethicks", literally just the front room of the then house with an animal feed store located out the back. In later years the ground floor of the property was extended and the shop redesigned, some years later the former Post Office closed in seperate premises across the road and the Post Office counter was introduced into the shop, we then became known as "Whitstone Stores and Post Office" More recently residents and customers fought a huge campain to keep the post office counter as it was selected for closure under the recent Post Office Network Change programme. Despite the massive support to keep the Post Office, it was still selected for closure, but we were given a reprieve in the form of a Partner Outreach Post Office in association with the Main Post Office in Bude. AwardsWe have been fortunate to receive nominations for several awards, following nominations by its customers, Whitstone Stores was as a regional finalist for the ‘neighbourhood shop of the year’ award presented by Robert Wiseman Dairies. The Stores was also shortlisted by the Federation of Small Businesses for the national final of its Most Promising Small Business 2008 award. We were also listed as one of the UK's Top 100 Convenience stores by the Independent Achievers Academy, a trade body who independently assess retailers against a number of set criteria CharityWhitstone Stores is proud to support the "cots for tots" appeal. Last year we threw a Taste of Christmas open evening at the shop and thinks to the kind generosity of our customers, a raffle together with donations made at Santa's grotto raised more than £1,100 The Cots for Tots Appeal aims to provide vital facilities and equipment to enable the Unit to treat more babies from all over Bristol & the South West.
